Honor 200 Pro Review: Blazing Fast Performance and Stunning Camera

Honor is back with a bang, and the Honor 200 Pro is vying for a spot at the top of the smartphone throne. This feature-packed phone boasts a sleek design, a powerful processor, and a camera system that puts a particular emphasis on portrait photography. But is it all hype, or does the Honor 200 Pro live up to its promises? We spent a week with the phone to find out.

Design and Display:

The Honor 200 Pro oozes elegance. The phone is incredibly slim at just 8.2mm, and the quad-curved display spills over the edges, creating an almost bezel-less look. The back panel comes in two finishes: a smooth, glossy section surrounding the camera housing and a textured glass design that offers a nice grip and helps prevent fingerprints.  While some may find the elongated camera array a bit unusual, it's undeniable that the overall build quality feels premium.

The display itself is a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Colors are vibrant, blacks are deep, and the viewing angles are excellent. Whether you're browsing the web, watching videos, or gaming, the display delivers a truly immersive experience.

Performance:

Under the hood, the Honor 200 Pro packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, which is currently one of the most powerful mobile chipsets available. Paired with 12GB of RAM, the phone handles even the most demanding tasks with ease. We experienced zero lag or stutter during everyday use, and even graphically intensive games ran smoothly on the highest settings.

The phone comes with 256GB of storage, which should be enough for most users. However, there's no microSD card slot for expandable storage, so if you need more space, you'll need to be mindful of your usage.

Camera:

The Honor 200 Pro's camera system is where things get interesting. The main focus is clearly on portrait photography, with a collaboration with the Parisian photo studio Harcourt to create unique portrait effects. The rear camera setup consists of a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide sensor with autofocus for macro shots, and a 12MP 5x telephoto lens.

The main sensor captures stunning photos in most lighting conditions. Images are sharp, detailed, and offer a great dynamic range. The ultrawide sensor is decent, capturing good detail and offering autofocus for close-up shots. However, it struggles a bit in low light. The telephoto lens delivers excellent 2.5x zoom photos and decent 5x zoom shots, especially with the help of night mode.

But the real star of the show is the portrait mode. The Honor 200 Pro utilizes the collaboration with Harcourt to deliver a variety of portrait effects that mimic the studio's signature style. These effects are more than just simple filters; they offer a level of detail and control that elevates portrait photography on the phone.

The 50MP selfie camera is another highlight. It captures sharp and detailed selfies, even in low light conditions. The wide field of view also makes it great for group selfies.

Software:

The Honor 200 Pro runs on Magic OS, Honor's custom user interface based on Android. Magic OS offers a clean and user-friendly interface with a wide range of customization options. However, it's a significant departure from stock Android, so users accustomed to the stock experience might require some adjustment time.

One interesting feature is Magic Capsule, which allows you to create private and secure app folders with additional layers of security. Overall, the software experience is smooth and offers plenty of functionality, but some users might prefer a closer-to-stock Android experience.

Battery Life and Charging:

The Honor 200 Pro is equipped with a sizable 5,200mAh battery. In our testing, the phone easily lasted a full day on a single charge with moderate usage. Even with heavier use, you'll likely get through most days without needing to reach for the charger.

When you do need to top up, the Honor 200 Pro supports incredibly fast 100W wired charging. We were able to fully charge the phone from 0 to 100% in under 30 minutes. The phone also supports 50W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, making it a great option for those who use a lot of wireless accessories.

Verdict:

The Honor 200 Pro is a powerful and feature-packed smartphone with a stunning display, a versatile camera system, and incredibly fast charging. The focus on portrait photography makes it a great choice for anyone who loves taking selfies or capturing special moments with friends and family. However, there are a few things to consider before you hit buy.
